Wild Pups: the record

Several runs of the same world from different seeds, each followed for the same number of days: how big each band stayed, what happened to it, and what every dog did with its life. The leaderboard sets what the band's own hierarchy rewards - a dog's standing, which the dogs settle among themselves - against what each dog gave it.

The home band, day by day

Predator pressure, day by day

How hard predators pressed the home band, as a day's mean: their nearness to its ground, raised by alarms and strikes and fading over a couple of hours. At 0.35 and over the band draws together and faces them.

What happened

Where the food went

All the food each run's world gave, all told: what the dogs ate of their own kills, of the voles they caught mousing, of berries in season, of carrion and of what you set down for them, and what scavengers - ravens, vultures, an eagle, an opossum - took and what rotted. Meat left unguarded goes to the birds; a dog's body is theirs, since dogs do not eat their own dead.

Standing and place against what each dog gave

Two different things. A dog's standing is how the band regards it - earned by its strength, by facing challengers, and by what it does for the others. Its place is its rank in the formal hierarchy, which leads patrols and breeds, and which changes only when one dog challenges the one above it; standing decides whom the others back in a challenge, not who is where. Each column is Spearman's rank correlation, over every dog that was a home-band adult for at least a day, between how high it stood or was placed (its mean over its adult days) and how much of each thing it did per adult day. Positive: the higher, the more of this it did. The last row says how far place has come to follow standing.

Lifetime leaderboard

Every dog that lived as an adult, across all the runs. Click a column to sort, and a dog to read its life. Place is the mean of its place in the formal hierarchy while it was a home adult: 0 the top, 1 the bottom. Standing is the mean of how the band regarded it.
